ATAR Course

Introduction

This course focuses on creativity and learning relating to the use of textiles – fibres, yarn and fabric. It is a combination of theoretical knowledge and the practical application of textile manufacturing skills. Two practical projects completed by the student during the Year 11 course will develop skills in readiness for the Major Textiles Project which is a mandatory component of the Year 12 course.

For Whom is the Course Intended?

Students may choose to study this course due to an interest in the textile or fashion industry as a career opportunity or through personal interest and as an outlet for expression and creativity through textiles.

This course has a strong theory and practical emphasis. A Major Textile Project is completed in Year 12 in one of the following areas:

  • Apparel
  • Furnishings
  • Costume
  • Textile Arts
  • Non-apparel

This subject offers further credit in some courses at TAFE and university. This includes Bachelor of Design in Fashion and Textiles – UTS.

Pre-Requisites

Students do NOT NEED to have previous experience in their chosen practical field, but it is an advantage.

Assessment

Students complete two minor design projects in Year 11 and one Major Textiles Project in Year 12, which is externally marked and contributes to 50% of their final HSC result.

Costs

Subject Fee: $100.00 pa

Other Costs: Students provide most of their own materials for project work. Excursions vary depending on changing exhibitions. Cost is kept to a minimum.
