Mathematics Standard 2 Unit

ATAR Course

Introduction

All students attempting Standard Mathematics do the same Year 11 course with the option of doing the Standard 2 course or the Standard 1 course in Year 12.

Mathematics Standard is a NESA Developed ATAR Course.

The Mathematics Standard 1 course has an optional HSC examination component which, if taken, allows the Student to include Mathematics Standard 1 as part of an ATAR calculation.  If the HSC examination is not completed then this course cannot count towards an ATAR calculation.

Assessment

For both Year 11 and Year 12 courses students are to be assessed on:

  • their knowledge and skills.
  • their ability to apply their knowledge.
  • their reasoning and interpretive skills.
  • their ability to explain and communicate methods and solutions.

Internal Assessment

Students do traditional examinations plus a number of other tasks which have stronger emphasis on understanding, communication and interpretation.

External Assessment

Students sit for an HSC Examination.

There is an optional External HSC Examination for Mathematics Standard 1 students who wish to use their Mathematics as part of an ATAR calculation.

Costs

Subject costs are included in the College Resource Fee.
